What We Learned From 500 Developer Interviews

We spoke to hundreds of developers about their hiring pain points. Here's what they told us about the broken process.

We conducted extensive interviews with developers across all experience levels to understand what's working and what's broken in technical hiring. The insights we gathered paint a clear picture of a system that frustrates both candidates and companies.

The top complaints

Number one: lack of feedback. Candidates invest hours in interviews and never hear back or receive only a generic rejection. Number two: repetitive assessments. Every company makes candidates repeat the same coding challenges, even when they've demonstrated their skills elsewhere. Number three: the disconnect between what interviews test and what the job actually requires.

What developers actually want

Developers want a hiring process that respects their time, provides honest feedback, and evaluates them on skills relevant to the role. They want to be assessed on real-world problems, not algorithmic puzzles that don't reflect day-to-day work. They want companies to verify their skills once and trust that verification.

These insights directly inform how we're building DevPass. A platform where developers can prove their skills once and carry that verification with them throughout their career.
