Interview anxiety is one of the most common challenges developers face during the job search process. Even experienced engineers with years of successful work can freeze up during interviews. The good news is that interview anxiety is manageable with the right techniques and preparation.

Preparation is the best antidote

Thorough preparation builds confidence. Practice with mock interviews, study common patterns, and prepare your STAR stories. The more familiar you are with the interview format and content, the less anxiety you'll feel. Focus on progress, not perfection — you don't need to ace every question.

In-the-moment techniques

During the interview, take deep breaths before answering. Pause to collect your thoughts — silence is okay. Reframe the interview as a conversation and collaboration rather than a test. Remember that you're also evaluating the company. If you make a mistake, acknowledge it and move on gracefully.
