How to Write Job Descriptions That Attract Great Developers
Your job description is the first impression candidates have of your company. Here's how to make it count.

A great job description does more than list requirements — it sells the opportunity, respects the reader's time, and gives candidates a real sense of what the job is like day to day. Yet most engineering job descriptions read like legal documents, filled with buzzwords and generic requirements that fail to differentiate one company from another.
Include the tech stack and tools they'll actually use. Be transparent about salary ranges — studies show this increases application rates and improves candidate quality. Describe the team structure, development processes, and what success looks like in the role. Most importantly, be authentic about your company culture and expectations.
Avoid buzzword-heavy descriptions that sound like every other company. "Fast-paced environment" and "rock star developer" are red flags for many candidates. Be specific about the problems the team solves and the impact the role has. Developers want to join teams where they can learn, contribute, and grow.
